Building Blocks: The Robert Meachem Follow Your Dreams Foundation

Robert Meachem makes great moves on the field. The quiet, quality 2007 first round draft pick from the University of Tennessee fits in well with his focused teammates of the New Orleans Saints. It’s what Meachem is doing off the field that caught my attention. The star receiver’s Follow Your Dreams Foundation is growing and making an impact in the city.
On December 19th, the Saints hosted the Dallas Cowboys and earned their first loss of the season. The team shocked the world through week 15, amassing record-breaking yards and marching into Saints history. Most of the players went home to adjust to an unfamiliar feeling, but not Robert. He had a commitment.
That evening was reserved for a foundation fundraiser at Café Giovanni, a NOLA hot spot. Robert made himself available to fans to take photos, answer questions and just say thanks for the support. The following Monday, December 21st Meachem hosted a family fun night at AMF Bowling Lanes. Robert’s Saints teammate Jeremy Shockey was on hand at both events to also mix and mingle with the devoted fan base.
As the young player solidifies his career, he is determined to bring others along on his successful journey. The goal of the Follow Your Dreams Foundation is to provide talented, deserving underprivileged youth with the opportunity to realize their own future. The help could be in the form of equipment for teams, fees for participation in leagues or sponsoring tutoring programs to keep these students eligible and focused on education.
Sideline Pass expects great things from Robert, a smart, giving player who understands his role as a leader in the community. A big WHO DAT to you Mr. Meachem.
Sideline Pass fan Tessa Jackson was on hand and shared photos from the fundraiser.
