Five Minutes of Dirk
Fan Info, Polls — By Mia Jackson on June 7, 2011 at 3:30 PMby Mia M. Jackson
The Dallas Mavericks have made a habit of climbing back into games within the final five minutes. In Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat, Dirk worked scored seemingly at will and left the Heat stunned. It didn’t work in Game 3, but his stat line was just as impressive. Let’s see what happens tonight in the seesaw series.
5-minute mark info from the last two games.
NBA Finals – Mavericks v. Heat Game 3
At 4:56 left in the game, Dirk begins his assault by making 2 free throws to take him to 26 points. Within the final 4:00 of the game, Dirk would make a slam dunk, 4 more free throw shots and grab two rebounds on both ends of the court to keep the Mavs hopeful. His 8 points weren’t enough to keep them in the game, although they were enough to once again keep it closer than they seemed.
NBA Finals – Mavericks v. Heat Game 2
Dirk’s 5 minutes stat line begins at the 3:56 mark with a rebound, and follows that soon with a jump shot taking him to 17 points. With just 1 minute remaining, Dirk makes a layup, another rebound, a 3-pointer, and wins the game with a driving layup. The Heat let their youth show and Dirk took it over to win.

Dirk really didn’t have the assistance that he has had in the past few games, thus he can’t carry the entire team. I believe the Heat were motivated after their home loss. Now each has won on the other’s floor so it’s a best 3 out of 4 now for Dallas. This makes it easy for Miami to go back home and finish out or close on Dallas’s floor on Thursday.
Carla, you are so right… The teams that win now adays have either a “big three” or one/two people who carry the team on their back…What happened to the days when you could rely on the bench to step up and it was a true team effort…There are 5 people on the court not 5 on 3..
