“You might well remember that nothing can bring you success but yourself.”
Napoleon Hill
I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing a young man dedicated to making a name for himself. Not just any name, but a good one that he can be proud of – as well as his mother and father. Conte Cuttino will
wait with hundreds of other young men around the country for his name to be called in the NFL Draft. There’s no guarantee it will be; however, it’ll be a team’s mistake if he’s left off the board.
The running back from Stony Brook University in New York understood that to have a chance, he’d have to make one. A business finance major, he knows full well the impact that the right investment makes on the long-term future. Thus, with help and encouragement from his discipline-focused parents, Conte took the last semester of his college year off to prepare. He’s spent months training and working. When he earned his opportunity to work out for the coaches at Pro Days, he made the best of it. Now his name is being mentioned in draft reports from NY to CA. No, not as a top ten but definitely as a strong RB candidate.

His numbers were great, ranking him within the top three in every category tested when compared to the same position players who attended the NFL Combine. Mighty impressive for certain. But what’s more impressive is what lies behind the numbers. That will and drive to succeed cannot be taught. You either got it or you don’t. I’m not speaking of talent, As Calvin Coolidge said, nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. He’s got the inner drive. Persistence is what takes a person to the next level. Conte has that persistence along with an unwavering faith in God instilled in him by his mother. That’s a mighty combination.
Listen to our interview as Conte discusses how he’s prepared for the next few days. I look forward to great things from this young man! And GM’s, I’m going to paraphrase Erykah Badu, “if you don’t believe you missing a good thing!”
