Sideline Pass goes to Camp!
The NFL’s Broadcast Boot Camp teaches, entertains and preps.
From June 22nd through June 25th, twenty NFL current and former players participated in the NFL’s Broadcast Boot Camp. Sideline Pass was right there watching as these on-the-field naturals decided to test their mettle on the other side of the camera. Accustomed to the flashing lights of hundreds of cameras on game day, these men discovered what it takes to translate their success to the other side. They tackled topics ranging from radio production to teleprompters to makeup.
We had the chance to meet and chat with Cleveland’s Joe Jurevicius, Jacksonville’s Maurice Jones-Drew, New England’s Matt Light, Kansas City’s Priest Holmes and Arizona’s Bryant McFadden among others. It was delightful, fun and often humorous as the players followed the lead of some of the nation’s best anchors and professionals. James Brown, Host of CBS’ NFL Today delivered words of wisdom as he chronicled his own transition from athlete to interviewer. In its third year, founder Vaughn Bryant considers it to be a major success and one of the more popular programs offered through the NFL Player Development office.
Jon Wiener of NY Daily News wrote an excellent article highlighting the event and digging deeper into just what these players hope to gain from the experience. Read it here.
We’ve got some great video of the guys who spoke to us a few minutes on camera. We’ll be adding different clips throughout the year. Check them out here.
